The earliest records on the family date back to the infamous Ghino di Tacco. Well-known in Siena, Ghino was from a young age dragged along by his father and uncle to take part in their activities of robbery and plunder. These thefts were motivated by the imposition of taxes on land properties by the Sienese church in favour of the Papal States, which were deemed excessive by the Ghibelline nobles. |
